Pixies' 'Doolittle' turns 30, just went platinum, getting new vinyl reissue
The Pixies‘ second album, Doolittle, turns 30 this week — it was released today (4/17) in the UK and on 4/18 in the U.S. It seems like only yesterday. It was their first full album with Gil Norton, who would go on to do the rest of their records, and took them from college radio faves to alt-rock radio hitmakers with “Monkey Gone to Heaven,” “Here Comes Your Man,” “Debaser,” and more. It’s a stone-cold classic as you probably know but if you’ve somehow never heard it, listen below.
Meanwhile Doolittle got a nice birthday present, officially being declared platinum status by the Recording Institute of America in recognition of one million units sold. Congrats all around, Pixies!
To celebrate the 30th anniversary, Pixies are releasing a 30th anniversary vinyl reissue of Doolittle that will be available exclusively via their local Boston record store, Newbury Comics. It’s available in three different colored vinyl variations — cornetto, splatter and swirl — each with 1000 copies pressed. It’s out July 12 and you can preorder now.
Having just wrapped up their tour with Weezer last week, Pixies will also have a new album out this year, and are launching a podcast about it in June. They’ll tour the UK and Europe in June — all dates are listed below.
