Polvo drummer Eddie Watkins, RIP

Sad indie rock news: Polvo drummer and founding member Eddie Watkins has died. Details about his death are unclear, but Merge Records co-owner (and Superchunk frontman) Mac McCaughan shared the news on the label’s Facebook:

Stunned and saddened to hear of Eddie Watkins’ passing. It took a unique drummer to make those Polvo records & they are some of my favorite records, period. Classics. Sweet guy to be with on tour and in the studio. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

True words. Rest in peace, Eddie.

Eddie, according to his personal website, was also a father, librarian, chef, and cyclist living in Durham, NC. His Linkedin shows that he held down a non-music day job these days, but if you scroll all the way down, you’ll see that “Polvo Drummer” also still holds a prominent spot on his resume.
