Pond share new single; members playing solo sets at Brooklyn Temple w/ Montero after MHOW show

Australia’s Pond will release their new album in early 2017. Title, release date and other details haven’t been released yet, but they did recently share the first single, “Sweep Me Off My Feet,” which was coproduced by the band and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. (Pond main man Jay Watson is also a member of Tame Impala, and Kevin used to drum for Pond.) You can listen to that below.

Pond start their North American tour this week, beginning with Desert Daze fest in Joshua Tree, CA, and they’ll be in Brooklyn at Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 26 with Machete Western (tickets). After that Nick Allbrook and Shiny Joe Ryan from Pond will be playing solo sets at Brooklyn Temple on October 29 with another Australian band, Montero. That’s part of the Murmrr concert series and details about that show and how to attend are still TBA.

Murmrr is also throwing a party on October 18 at Dumbo Loft (155 Water St.) featuring DJ sets by MGMT’s Andrew Wygarten and James Richardson. RSVP to attend.

Meanwhile, Montero — the widescreen pysch-pop outfit from Australian musician/artist Ben Montero — have other NYC shows and their band includes James Richardson and Will Berman (also of MGMT’s live band,). They’ll play Baby’s All Right on Friday, October 14, a not-CMJ showcase put on by Panache that also features another Australian band, Power, along with Atlanta band Omni, and headliners EZTV and Jacuzzi Boys. Montero will also play Cake Shop on Monday, October 17 with Guy Blackman (who also plays in Montero and runs Chapter Music). Flyer for the Baby’s show is below and tickets for both shows are on sale now.

Montero released their debut album, The Loving Gaze, in 2013. He’s also a graphic designer who did the art for the last Pond LP, as well as stuff for Mac DeMarco and others. The band are gearing up to make the followup at Mark Ronson’s London studio with Jay Watson from Tame Impala/Pond producing. While we wait for that you can check out the 2013 album via Spotify and the video for lead single “Adriana” below.

While we’re on the subject: Power also play Alphaville on Thursday, October 13 with Honey and Barbed Wire (tickets) ; EZTV and Omni play another not-CMJ showcase at Rough Trade on Thursday with Muuy Biien and more (tickets).
