Pornhub interested in acquiring Tumblr, which Verizon is selling

When Tumblr banned sexual content, including “female-presenting nipples,” back in December, many wondered if it was the final nail in the coffin for the embattled microblogging platform, whose best days were almost certainly behind it anyway, having been sold to Yahoo in 2013 before Yahoo itself was swallowed by Verizon Oath in 2017. Now Verizon is looking to rid itself of Tumblr as well, Wall Street Journal reports. Sources familiar with the matter told WSJ that Verizon is in an ongoing process of looking for a buyer, although they haven’t found one yet. Meanwhile, daily visitors to the site dropped 30% since the sexual content ban went into place, The Verge reports.

A possible savior for Tumblr may come from an unlikely (or inevitable, depending on how you look at it) source: Pornhub. In a statement to BuzzFeed News, Pornhub Vice President Corey Price said they were “extremely interested” in acquiring Tumblr, and bringing back its NSFW content focus, of course.

“There are obvious synergies between the two brands and value Pornhub could derive from Tumblr,” Price told BuzzFeed News. “We’re extremely interested in acquiring the platform and are very much looking forward to one day restoring it to its former glory with NSFW content.”
