Potty Mouth / Radiator Hospital @ Glasslands – 1/6/14
Potty Mouth and Radiator Hospital kicked off their short run of shows together in Brooklyn at Glasslands last night (1/6), gracing the venue with a double dose of punky indie rock. Potty Mouth, fresh off a New Year’s Eve show in NYC, headlined with a quick and enjoyable set that they split between new stuff they’ve been working on and choice cuts off their slacker punk debut LP, Hell Bent.
Radiator Hospital, primarily the project of Waxahatchee collaborator Sam Cook-Parrott, has played NYC solo in the past, but last night he was in full band mode (like the recent Suburbia show) with a four-piece that included Swearin’ drummer Jeff Bolt and guitarist/backup vocalist Cynthia Schemmer (also of Heavy Bangs). Radiator Hospital’s excellent 2013 LP, Something Wild, is something of a scrapbook of ideas ranging from scratchy pop punk to bedroom folk, but with a full band, Sam was even more consistently powerful than on record. The band delivered ripper after ripper (with only one solo song worked in), keeping the crowd bouncing the whole time and a bunch of people shouting along during “Our Song.”
Waxahatchee also bring their tour with Cayetana and All Dogs to NYC on 1/21 at Mercury Lounge and 1/23 at Glasslands.
