Power Trip announce new album 'Nightmare Logic,' add tour dates

Power Trip FFF Fest 2015

With heavy metal and its web of sub-genres as fashionable and as scenester-y as ever, the whole scene is rife with poseurs, musical forgers, frauds, imitators, amateurs, and more style-over-substance hams than I know what to do with. It’s like, yo, owning a guitar and having zeal for heavy metal doesn’t necessarily mean you and your buddies have to start a band, ya know? It muddies the pool. Then again, sometimes you come across a band that not only understands a specific metal genre on an expert level but also actually has the chops to back it up; a band like, say, prodigal thrash rejuvinators Power Trip. Power Trip quickly and single-handedly restored my faith in a 35 year old genre that has been floundering for years. They have that unmistakable heviosity and style of ’80s thrash godfathers like Exodus, Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Kreator, and Sodom and execute it with striking earnestness while avoiding sounding like tribute or caricature. If you haven’t jumped on the Power Trip bandwagon, 2016 will be a good year for you to make the leap.

According to their Facebook, it looks like Power Trip are finally making some serious headway in buttoning up the follow-up release to their peerless 2013 crusher Manifest Decimation. Titled Nightmare Logic, it’s going to be put out by Southern Lord sometime later this year. Lads, do hurry up!

Power Trip are also priming themselves for world domination with some pretty extensive touring that even includes a vast European jaunt, their first ever. As far as NYC gigs go, we have a few chances to catch them. Japanese hardcore legends Death Side have two shows booked at Le Poisson Rouge on April 16 and April 17, both of which are sold out. Power Trip are one of the openers on the April 17 show, so if you have a ticket do everything you can to get there for their set, even if that means cutting your pregame drinkin’ n’ doobies sesh short! While Death Side are laying waste to Le Poisson Rouge, Power Trip will be across the river decimating The Acheron in Brooklyn on April 16. Tickets for this Acheron show are still available. The day before that, Power Trip drummer Chris Ulsh’s other band Impalers play the same venue (tickets).

And if you’re heading out to SXSW, don’t forget that Power Trip are headlining the outdoor stage at our FREE Thursday (3/17) day party at Cheer Up Charlies. That show is also with Citizen, Turnover, Radioactivity, Mean Jeans and more (RSVP).

All Power Trip dates are listed, with streams of two tracks off their last album, below.
