pre-Versus band Flower prep 1st record in 29 years, touring w/ Sebadoh (stream 2 songs)

Before forming Versus, Richard and Ed Baluyut played in NYC indie rock band Flower, who traveled in similar noisy circles to Sonic Youth and Swans and released two albums and an EP before calling it quits in 1990. The original lineup of Flower (including bassist Ian James and drummer Andrew Bordwin) have gotten back together a few times this decade, but recently began working on new music and are now getting ready to release their first new music in 29 years via Ernest Jenning Record Co.

Details on the album are still forthcoming, but Flower will soon be out on the road with Sebadoh and are releasing a tour flexi, featuring two new songs: the punky “Names” the the darker and more dissonant “Talk.” You don’t have to wait for the tour to hear them, though, both premiere in this post. Stream them below.

Flower’s dates with Sebadoh do not include the NYC-area shows (which are with Eleanor Friedberger). All dates are listed below.

Versus also have new records out this year, and James Baluyut’s band +/- are also working on new music.
