Can "Lost Tapes" being released; preview the songs @ LPR

Can

Originators of the experimental/psychedelic krautrock sound, the highly influential Can, will release a three-CD boxset filled with unreleased studio and live recordings. The music comes from a cache of old recordings that were recently rediscovered…. if you want to call it that

The set is compiled from over 30 hours of music which was stored in the group’s archives and rediscovered after the group’s studio was sold to the German Rock ‘n’ Pop Museum. “Obviously the tapes weren’t really lost, but were left in the cupboards of the studio archives for so long everybody just forgot about them,” said Schmidt in a statement.

The material featured on The Lost Tapes includes compositions shelved over album-length issues and songs recorded for soundtracks of films that were never completed. The tracks were recorded between 1968 and 1977, featuring the core quartet along with vocal contributions from Malcolm Mooney and Damo Suzuki on some tracks.-[Rolling Stone]

Look for it on June 19th via Mute Records and stream the “new” song “Millionenspiel” below.

Meanwhile you can get a sneak peek of the material on April 17th at Le Poisson Rouge when Jono Podmore joins Can keyboardist Irmin Schmidt for “The Music Of Can: An Evening of Unreleased Music and Discussion.” Tickets are on sale for the event that will include a listening party and discussion of the tunes.
