It’s Pride Week in NYC, the grand finale of which happens today (6/25) with The March. That steps off at 12 PM at 36th Street and 5th Ave, and goes to Christopher and Greenwich Streets. This year, for the first time ever, The March will be broadcast live on TV, as well – you can watch it from 12 PM-3 PM on ABC7.

Before The March, NYC Pride debuted a new three-day concert series/cultural experience, Pride Island. That kicked off at Hudson River Park’s Pier 26 on Friday (6/23) with Patti LaBelle, Deborah Cox, and DJ Lina, and continued Saturday (6/24) with Tegan & Sara, Years & Years, Roisin Murphy, and Gallant. Pictures from Saturday are in the gallery above.

While Friday’s show was rained on, the weather on Saturday was much more conducive to dancing the afternoon away outdoors: sunny and hot, but not obnoxiously so. Pride Island’s stage is set up on a relatively narrow cross-section of the pier, making it feel intimate, even though quite a crowd gathered as the afternoon went on. The last Pride Island show happens after The March, and Nelly Furtado headlines.

Tegan & Sara, who headlined on Saturday, have had a busy Pride in NYC: they played a couple of songs at the first annual Village Voice Pride Awards on Wednesday (6/21), and stopped at the fifth annual Everyone is Gay + Autostraddle Pride Party at Housing Works on Saturday before playing Pride Island. They’ll be back soon, too; they play The Meadows in September, and their tenth anniversary tour for The Con stops at Kings Theatre in November (tickets).

Meanwhile, Nashville, TN is also celebrating Pride this weekend, including a two-day concert with Lizzo, Julien Baker, Big Freedia, Ezra Furman, and others.
