Priests / La Misma @ DbA – 4/5/14
DC’s Priests kicked off their tour with London’s Good Throb in NYC at Death by Audio on Saturday (4/5) with a show that also included locals La Misma and Nuclear Spring (who share a member), and Boston’s Exit Order. Pictures of all five bands are in this post.
The show got off to a solid start with Nuclear Spring’s catchy punk, which was followed by Exit Order, who were probably the heaviest band on the bill. Up next were Priests, whose set was interrupted multiple times by a faulty tuner, but when they were on, they were on. The music’s structured by sturdy post-punk basslines, but singer Katie Alice Greer is closer to a punk singer, switching between passionate shouts and aggressive growls, and pretty much owning the stage. (Fun fact: Parquet Courts singer Andrew Savage could be seen rocking out in the front of the crowd.)
Their tourmates Good Throb followed with a similar mix of punk and post-punk, and NYC’s La Misma wrapped up the show with their powerhouse singer who sings entirely in Portuguese and had possibly the night’s wildest mosh pit.
Priests’ tour with Good Throb treks on and returns to Death by Audio on April 18, this time with Household and Arm Candy. Their first album for Don Giovanni, Bodies and Control and Money and Power, will be out on June 3.
