Prizehog on tour (in NYC now); Vaz playing shows; Bludded Head and Marriage + Cancer & Stephen Brodsky too

Prizehog

Noise rock/sludge experimenters Prizehog are out on the road. The Bay Area-born, Portland-located trio is touring in support of their newest effort, Re-Unvent the Whool. Released back in March, the long-player has received its share of acclaim, taking the tribal thump of Neurosis and the woosh of space rock, filtering the result through the pitch-shifted everything of avant-pop. It’s a neat blend of varied elements, coalescing into a heavy listen that’s definitely not ponderous.

They’re currently in New York for two different dates. The first is tonight (5/22) at Cake Shop in Manhattan with Columboid (minimal synth madness that’s ex-Vaz), Insect Ark (Bee and Flower leader Dana Schecter’s lap-steel/bass solo drone), and Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man, Old Man Gloom, half of Hydra Head’s roster, etc.). Tickets are $8 at the door. The second is Friday (5/23) at Saint Vitus, sporting a bill of Vaz (noise rock related to ’90s legends Hammerhead), Mossenek (guitar/electronics duo with Mick Barr), and Collapsible Baton. Tickets are still available.

Speaking of Vaz, the noisy nutters also have two other NYC dates forthcoming. On June 1, they’ll hit the Cake Shop with Bludded Head, Coma in Algiers, Couch Slut, and Marriage + Cancer (K Records band formerly known as nucular aminals) in support. Then, on June 22, Vaz will hook up Tweak Bird — who we premiered a song from this week — and Bbigpigg at Death By Audio. Tickets are $8 at the door.

Bludded Head, the Denton doom dealers, are stocked with some out-there merch, so definitely be on the look out for that. They and Marriage + Cancer also playThe Gutter in Brooklyn on May 31 with Vulture Shit, one day before their Cake Shop show.
