Protomartyr ready new EP ft. Kelley Deal, share "Wheel of Fortune," touring

protomartyr

Protomartyr will release the Consolation EP on June 15 via Domino. Two of the tracks are collaborations with Kelley Deal of The Breeders and R. Ring, with whom they had previously worked together on the A Half of Seven split. The EP was recorded by Kelley’s R. Ring bandmate Mike Montgomery and Protomartyr singer Joe Casey talks a bit about making the record:

Early 2017 proved to be a productive time for the band. We were writing songs right up to recording Relatives In Descent and wanted to keep that momentum going right after. Making 2015’s split single “A Half Of Seven” with R. Ring was one of our favorite recording experiences, so the decision to head down to Dayton, Kentucky and spend a weekend in May recording the four songs that became the “Consolation E.P.” was an easy one.

The lead single from the EP is the rather epic “Wheel of Fortune,” one of the songs featuring Kelley, with shouted chorus of “I decide who lives and who dies.” The video, directed by Yoonha Park (who made the “Don’t Go To Anacita” video) matches the song’s intensity with flaming swords and hands and other imagery. You can watch that below.

Protomartyr have a busy tour schedule though most of it is not in North America. They’re currently in Europe, and have dates in Asia and more European shows this summer. They’ve currently got three U.S shows: The BrooklynVegan Northside Festival show at Elsewhere on June 9 with Deerhoof and more TBA (tickets), plus Seattle’s Upstream Music Festival on June 3 and L.A.’s FYF Fest on July 21. All dates are listed, along with the EP’s cover art and tracklist, below.

Kelley Deal was just in NYC for three area shows with The Breeders (who will be back in August for BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn).
