How do you feel about clowns? They aren’t so much the stuff of kids entertainment anymore, more likely the stuff of nightmares. One clown that’s in the “misunderstood monster” department is Puddles Pity Party, a 6’8″ clown dressed up as a modern-day Pagliaccio, both terrifying and possessed with a sonorous voice. (“The Sad Clown with the Golden Voice.”) Those pipes are used on an array of covers, from Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” to Lorde’s “Royals.” Videos of both are below.

We caught Puddles when he was part of Eels‘ opening lineup last year and he’s back in NYC, playing two back-to-back sets at Joe’s Pub tonight (10/21) — 9:30 is sold out, but tickets to the 11:30 PM show are still available.

Puddles has some other dates this month and all are listed, along with videos, below…

Puddles Pity Party – Hallelujah – Joe’s Pub (8.5.14)

Puddles Pity Party – Royals (Lorde)

Puddles Pity Party – Another Tear Falls (Bacharach/David)
