Pylon

Pylon releasing 1983 live session for new single (listen to "Gravity")

Pylon

Athens, GA postpunk icons Pylon effectively ceased to be when guitarist Randall Bewley died of a heart attack in 2009. The band had been reformed for a couple years at that (and sounded great) but, apart from reissues on DFA, no new music has been released by Pylon since 1990’s Chain. There are a couple new from-the-vaults releases coming up. First there’s a live single featuring performances of “Gravity” and “Weather Radio” Pylon did for a TV pilot in Athens that was never aired (and forgotten about). That’s coming out April 20 via Chunklet. You can stream “Gravity” below.

Secondly, there is a double-live album due out this July on Bewley’s birthday. Stay tuned for details. While Pylon aren’t a functioning band anymore, singer Vanessa Briscoe Hay does still play their songs occasionally with the Pylon Reenactment Society. Their only upcoming date is at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta on May 14.
