Quiet Slang (aka Beach Slang solo) releasing debut LP, announces tour

Quiet Slang, aka the solo project of Beach Slang frontman and only remaining original member James Alex, made his live debut at SXSW earlier this month and he’s releasing his debut album Everything Matters But No One Is Listening on May 18 via Polyvinyl. This album features stripped-down versions of Beach Slang songs, but James says if he does another Quiet Slang album, it would be new original songs. James made the album with cellist Dan Delaney and pianist Keith Giosa, as well as Stacey Downham, Matt Weber, Charlie Lowe, and The Warhawks. It was produced by Dave Downham. You can get a taste from the video for “Dirty Cigarettes,” which features Laura Burhenn (Mynabirds) and Heather McIntosh (Elephant 6, of Montreal).

Quiet Slang has also announced a tour, and here’s what James says about it: “Cellos, a piano, a gang of voices and tenderness—I have never been more ready to be vulnerable. Maybe we can do that together. There has to be some healing in it, you know?”

The tour kicks off in Brooklyn on 5/16 at Rough Trade (tickets on sale 3/30 at 10 AM), before hitting Philly, DC, Toronto, Chicago, Vancouver, Portland, San Francisco, LA, Austin, and more. All dates are listed below.

Meanwhile, Beach Slang are currently on tour with Dashboard Confessional and Kississippi, and they’ll be in the NYC-area soon to play Brooklyn Steel on 3/29 (tickets) and The Stone Pony on 4/2 (tickets). All dates on that tour are listed here.
