R.E.M.'s 'Monster' is 25 today (listen to "Revolution" demo from new box set)

R.E.M.‘s Monster was released 25 years ago today in the U.S. and the band have an anniversary box set on the way which includes a new mix of the album, rare outtakes, demos, live recordings and more. They’ve just shared one of those demos for a song titled “Revolution” which ended up not making the record, but they played it live on the Monster tour and it would end up on the soundtrack for 1997’s Batman & Robin. If you dug the more rock direction of Monster, but wish the mid-’90s production was dialed back to Sebadoh levels, this is pretty cool. The Monster: 25th Anniversary Edition is out November 1. Three-fourths of R.E.M. recently reunited for a show in Atlanta that also featured members of Pylon and more.
