Ramones getting street in front of Forest Hills High School named after them

As you may know, the Ramones‘ classic self-titled debut LP turned 40 this year, and the tributes have been pouring in. Morrissey covered them in NYC, Useless ID did a tribute, a lost demo came out on Record Store Day, a group of fellow punk legends played the debut LP in full on Joey’s birthday in NYC, there was a retrospective at the Queens Museum, and more. Now here’s another one.

The Ramones are getting a street named after them at the intersection of 67th Ave and 110th St in front of Forest Hills High School, where all four original members went to school. It’ll be called Ramones Way as of October 23 at 11 AM.

UPDATE: The naming was moved and will happen October 30 at 11 AM.

In July, DNAinfo pointed out that, along with 64 other streets in NYC, Ramones Way’s co-naming was approved by the City Council, according to Councilwoman Karen Koslowitz’s office.

That’s also where Paul Simon went to high school, and earlier this year, Paul returned to Forest Hills for what may have been his last NYC shows ever.
