Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, Bouncing Souls & Jake Burns played NJ (pics)

Rancid are on tour now with Dropkick Murphys, The Bouncing Souls, and Stiff Little Fingers frontman Jake Burns, having hit Asbury Park’s Stone Pony Summer Stage on Friday (8/4) and the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk on Sunday (8/6).

We caught the Asbury Park show, which began with an acoustic set from Jake Burns, who played about half solo songs and half Stiff Little Fingers songs, closing with “Wasted Life” and “Alternative Ulster.” The Bouncing Souls played a set of favorites, kicking off with “Manthem” and also including “That Song,” “Hopeless Romantic,” “Kate Is Great,” “Gone,” “True Believers,” and more, and the Jersey band had the hometown crowd going nuts. It was even crazier and more packed for Dropkick Murphys. And then Rancid came on, loading their set with eight songs off the classic …And Out Come the Wolves, and also playing a nice chunk of this year’s very ’90s-sounding Trouble Maker. The show ended with both Rancid and Dropkick Murphys on stage for four covers: Ramones’ “Cretin Hop,” Cock Sparrer’s “Take ‘Em All,” Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues,” and Sham 69’s “If the Kids Are United.”

They’ve been ending the shows with those covers (and more) the whole tour. Check out videos of various covers they’ve been doing, with the setlists from Asbury Park, below. Photos of the Asbury Park show are in the gallery above.

The Bouncing Souls will return to Stone Pony Summer Stage for their Stoked for the Summer show on 8/25 with Lucero, The Menzingers, and more (tickets).
