Ras G of L.A. Beat Scene and Brainfeeder has died

Los Angeles producer Ras G (real name: Gregory Shorter) who was closely associated with Brainfeeder and the L.A. Beat Scene, has died at age 39. Brainfeeder shared the very sad news, writing “It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to one of our brothers, Gregory Shorter, aka RAS G. We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, & fans worldwide.” Cause of death is unknown but FACT points out that Shorter was taken to the hospital in December 2018 and was diagnosed with  pneumonia, borderline high blood pressure, diabetes, hypothyroidism and heart failure.

Ras G was known for a genre-defying production style that blended dub, jazz, psych, sci-fi and more, and in addition to his own records, he collaborated with, among others, Flying Lotus, Thundercat, and Open Mike Eagle, all of whom have written tributes which you can read below. You can also read tributes from Hudson MoHawke, DaM Funk, TOKiMONSTA, Suzi Analog, Lone, and more.

Rest in peace, Ras G. You can listen to some of his music below as well.
