Rich Brian

Rich Brian released debut album 'Amen,' played 'Corden' (video, LP stream)

Indonesian rapper Rich Brian (formerly Rich Chigga) has come a long way since his 2016 debut single “Dat Stick.” He’s since collaborated with high-profile MCs including Ghostface Killah, Young Thug, and 21 Savage, and continues to create buzz in many hip hop circles. Today, Brian has released his debut full-length project Amen, which features collaborations from fellow 88rising labelmate Joji, Migos member Offset, and others.

Lyrically, the album showcases Brian reflecting on his recent rise to fame. On the opening title track, Brian references his musical beginnings, learning English through online videos of rappers including Tyler, The Creator and Childish Gambino, with lines like “I don’t need no education/Internet’s my favorite teacher.” These themes continue on album highlight “Flight,” where Brian recounts signing his first record deal, and his starstruck experience upon meeting Pharrell for the first time. Amen was mostly self-produced by Brian, and his sharp ear for colorful beats are most exemplified by the icy piano chords on “Cold,” and the dreamy “Little Prince,” which features vocals from NIKI.

Coinciding with the album’s release, Brian performed the record’s first two tracks on The Late Late Show with James Corden, donning a fancy suit and smothering the stage in smoke. You can watch the performance, and stream Amen in full, below.

Rich Brian will be touring as part of 88rising’s Double Happiness tour, which hits NYC’s Irving Plaza on February 20 (tickets). He’ll also be appearing at the 2018 edition of Bonnaroo in June. All dates are listed below.
