Ride are making their first new LP in 20 years with producer Erol Alkan

Reunited shoegaze greats Ride are working on their first new album in 20 years. The news broke via Erol Alkan, who is producing the album. He tweeted the above picture from the studio, saying matter-of-factly “Currently in the studio with Ride producing their forthcoming album.” You can check out another picture from the studio, via Ride’s twitter, below.

Erol Alkan has produced albums for Bloc Party, Mystery Jets, Late of the Pier and The Long Blondes, and records his own music as one half of Beyond the Wizards Sleeve (who put out an album this year).

While there’s obviously no way of knowing what it will sound like yet, I’d be willing to bet Ride’s new album will be more satisfying than 1996’s Tarantula, a half-hearted record full of ’70s riff rock (and only one song by Mark Gardner) that almost no one likes and was released after the band broke up and was deleted by Creation Records a week after its release.
