Ride played Brooklyn Steel (pics, setlist, review)

“I love reverb,” Andy Bell admitted to the Brooklyn Steel crowd Thursday night (7/20). Of course anyone who knows Ride could’ve probably guessed that. The shoegaze greats just released their new album The Weather Diaries — their first since the ’90s — which has them back in very good form, after their last two records mostly abandoned their hazy ways. The new tracks, like “Lannoy Point” and “Charm Assault” which opened the show, sounded better live than on record — roughed up just a little, as opposed to the very clean, digital recorded counterparts. The stellar sound at Brooklyn Steel also helped, as did the simple but effective light show, not to mention that all four members are still playing at the top of their game. It all made for for a great night of modern psych.

Ride played pretty much all the old songs you’d expect, too, such as “Leave Them All Behind,” “Vapour Trail,” “Seagull,” “Taste,” “Drive Blind” and “Chelsea Girl.” Setlist from the show is below and pictures are in the gallery above. The band’s tour wraps up in with shows in Philadelphia on Saturday (7/22) and Washington, DC on Sunday (7/23).
