Robyn Hitchcock shares new video, working on more music w/ Andy Partridge, expands tour

Robyn Hitchcock released a new 7″ earlier this year which included “Sunday Never Comes” which he wrote for the 2018 film Juliet Naked and he’s now made a video for that. “As Ethan Hawke sings the song in the film, I thought I should make my own version available,” says Robyn. “The video was shot in Sydney, directed by Jeremy Dylan (who filmed my last two promotional clips) and features me as an artist marooned in an abandoned apartment, wistfully peering at footage of my partner, Emma, as she vamps soulfully through Berlin. Were we ever together? At one point I start drawing her. The theme is distance, separation, and a resolution that never comes to pass….” You can watch that video below.

Meanwhile, Robyn released a long-in-the-works collaborative EP with XTC’s Andy Partridge titled Planet England, which is currently only available in physical formats. There’s more where that came from, as Robyn wrote on Instagram:

“Andy Partridge and I are knocked out with listener response to our PLANET ENGLAND EP. Thanks, everybody! Here we are yesterday in his shed in Swindon, working on a follow-up. Our first record took 12 years, so we’re hoping to fast-track this one to be ready before we both turn 70 in 2023. If we live to complete it, this record will be our Sgt. Pepper — a psychedelic magnum opus for a dystopian landscape. Or, to avoid journalese — a cheese fondue for the slag heaps. Just sayin’. Rock on, atoms and molecules alike!”
