Rock on the Range replacing Soundgarden with Chris Cornell tribute; Pointfest completely cancelled

Chris Cornell w/ Soundgarden @ Jones Beach, 2014 (more by Greg Cristman)

UPDATE: Watch Rock on the Range pay tribute to Chris Cornell during its first day.

Chris Cornell‘s death Wednesday night happened in the middle of Soundgarden‘s tour which included a couple shows this weekend. They were supposed to headline opening night of Columbus, OH’s Rock on the Range tonight, but the fest will instead put on a tribute to Cornell. Tonight’s lineup also includes Live, Bush, Sum 41, Gojira and more (Stone Sour headlined a Thursday night fest kick off show where they paid tribute to Soundgarden too).

St. Louis’ Pointfest, the annual fest put on by 105.7 The Point that was to happen Saturday (5/20), has been canceled completely. Soundgarden were the headliners as part of a bill that included their tourmates Dillinger Escape Plan, and Stone Sour, Pierce the Veil and others. “It is with deep regret, we are announcing that due to the sudden passing of Chris Cornell of Soundgarden last night, Pointfest on Saturday is cancelled,” read a statement. “105.7 The Point, Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre, and Live Nation extend our deepest sympathies to the members of Soundgarden, their crew, management, and the Cornell family.” Saturday was to have been the second Saturday of Pointfest which lost their 5/13 headliner as well (Korn) but that show still happened despite it.

Watch video of Chris Cornell’s final show with Soundgarden, and read the many tributes from fellow musicians and artists.
