‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ being remade for TV by ‘High School Musical’ director

horror

FOX is remaking quintessential midnight movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show as a TV special directed by Kenny Ortega, the man behind High School Musical and This Is It. From Deadline:

Tentatively titled The Rocky Horror Picture Show Event, the project is described as a reimagining of the campy horror feature, which, 40 years after its release continues, to play in theaters around the world – the longest theatrical distribution frame for any film in history.

This remake has apparently been in the works for over ten years and was almost done for MTV in 2008. Deadline also reports that producers of the event plan to “stick faithfully to the text and the score of the original but greatly reimagine the story visually.” We’re definitely not saying this is a good idea (it’s not) but who would you cast?

You can see the original 1975 film (which become a cult phenomenon at the Village’s Waverly Theatre) here in NYC tonight (4/10) at Bow Tie Chelsea Cinemas at midnight, complete with crucial audience participation elements. Bring your own toast. Tickets are available.
