Roger Waters addressed 9/11 anniversary @ 1st Barclays show (pics, setlist, video)

Rogers Waters played his first of two nights at Barclays Center on Monday night, part of his “Us + Them” world tour. The night was also the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks and Roger took a moment to address this during the encore:

This is a very sad anniversary for a lot of people in this town and we feel for the families of all the innocent people who were killed that day 16 years ago. And also for the first responders who died since from the diseases they got from working down there. Also the hundreds of thousands, even millions of people in the rest of the world who’ve died since that day because of what happened and our responses to it. So let our hearts be with all the innocent people all around the world whoever they might be, whatever their ethnicity or their color or religion.

You can watch video of that below.

Setlist for this A/V heavy tour has been pretty much the same at all shows, with lots of Pink Floyd, and some Waters solo material, including songs off this year’s Is This the Life We Really Want?. Setlist and a few videos from the show are below and pictures from Monday are in the gallery above.

Meanwhile, Jambase reports that My Morning Jacket’s Bo Koster has joined Roger’s band on keyboards, filling in for an injured Drew Erickson. (You may recall that MMJ have backed Roger at Newport Folk Fest.) The band already included a few indie-leaning musicians: drummer Joey Waronker (Beck, That Dog), Jessica Wolfe and Holly Laessig from Lucius, and Jonathan Wilson on lead guitar.

Roger Waters’ tour has been met with protest due to his outspoken views on Israel, and while there were a few people with signs outside Barclays on Monday, the major protests by two pro-Israel organizations — StandWithUs and Artists 4 Israel — did not protest out of respect for the 9/11 anniversary. Fans headed to Waters’ show at Barclays tonight (tickets are still available), though, can expect much more in the way of protests, including a 15-foot inflatable Pinocchio.
