Trump urinal

Rolling Stones, Queen, the George Harrison & Pavarotti's estates, all mad that Donald Trump used their music

Republican presidental nominee Donald Trump has been making musicians mad for the last year by his using their songs without their permission, including but not limited to Aerosmith, Adele, R.E.M., Neil Young, and Bruce Springsteen. With the just-finished Republican Nation Convention, a lot more are upset. Queen were already peeved that the Donald used “We Are The Champions” earlier on the campaign trail, with guitarist Brian May writing on his website, “”My personal reaction to Donald Trump using our music? We’d never give permission…We are taking advice on what steps we can take to ensure this use does not continue.” Well, Donald broke it out again, walking out on the first night of the convention to the song, prompting the following reply from Queen:

Queen were just the first to take umbrage in a week full of reportedly unauthorized musical appropriation. We mentioned the Rolling Stones above, and they were angered again when Trump used “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” to close the convention (which seems ironic?), despite the fact that they issued a cease-and-desist letter earlier this year. They quickly responded on the internet:

This particular disagreement is particularly funny because of a story that made the rounds earlier this year, in which Keith Richards pulled a knife on Donald Trump back in 1989. Playing a Trump-sponsored show in Atlantic City, the Stones agreed to it by forbidding Trump to promote or even be present at the concert, since the Stones didn’t want to be publicly affiliated with him. Once he showed up, Keith, well, out came the blade.

But there’s of course more from the RNC. George Harrison’s estate lashed out after Ivanka Trump took the stage to “Here Comes the Sun.”

And the estate of none other than the late Luciano Pavarotti released a statement from Italy, according to Reuters, after Trump used the aria from “Nessun Dorma” during the convention, as he has for much of his campaign. “As members of his immediate family, we would like to recall that the values of brotherhood and solidarity which Luciano Pavarotti expressed throughout the course of his artistic career are entirely incompatible with the world view offered by the candidate Donald Trump,” goes the statement.

It seems like Trump is running out of material. He should probably stick to Megadeth and Ted Nugent at this point.

For some much-needed sanity, you can check out Jon Stewart’s triumphant return to the desk on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and watch Late Night With Seth Meyers take on Trump’s acceptance speech, below.
