Roses (ex-Abe Vigoda) releasing debut, touring, including 3 NYC shows; Future Punx releasing split w/ Parquet Courts

Roses

While veteran actor Abe Vigoda is still with us, the LA group named after him is no more, quietly dissolving a while back. Guitarist Juan Velazquez has formed Roses, a trio who will release their debut EP via Group Tightner on August 5. Roses aren’t miles away from what Abe Vigoda did, making dark, danceable post-punk-influenced pop. You can stream a couple tracks from the EP below.

Roses just played a couple California shows with A Sunny Day in Glasgow and will be in NYC next month for three dates: Death by Audio on August 1 with Future Punx, Darlings and The Beds, then Cake Shop on August 2 with Outside World and Yin Yangs, and Silent Barn on August 3 with Grand Resort, Chimes, and Bueno. They’ve got a couple California shows before that and all dates are listed below.

Future Punx, meanwhile, just announced they’ll have a split 7″ with Parquet Courts, part of Famous Class’ LAMC series (that also includes a White Fence/Jack Name split and a Speedy Ortiz/Chris Weisman split). That’ll be out September 16. You can also see Future Punx on Saturday (7/19) at Glasslands with UK band CYMBALS and Donovan Blanc (tickets).

Darlings have a new record on the way, too.
