Ross Shapiro, singer and guitarist for Athens, GA’s The Glands, has died after an illness, reports Flagpole. Shapiro’s appealingly warbly voice and loose guitar style was at the heart of The Glands’ sound, which can be heard on 1997’s Double Thriller and their eponymous 2000 album. The band broke up not too long after — Shapiro also ran Athens’ Schoolkids Records shop — but reformed for the reopening of the Georgia Theatre in 2011 and then toured a bit, including a NYC show.

Rest in peace, Ross. You’ll be miss, but the music lives on. Stream The Glands below.
