Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds and Melissa Etheridge hosting "fan experiences" in Havana, Cuba

Rufus Wainwright will host “Wainwright Libre!,” a fan experience in Havana, Cuba from September 21 – 25:

Guests will join Wainwright for four days and four nights of Cuban adventures, sightseeing, fine cuisine, dancing and music while staying at the Melia Miramar Hotel in Havana. In between a packed sightseeing itinerary, Wainwright will perform an intimate private concert and public show alongside some of the country’s finest musicians. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to visit this coveted destination.

Engaging A-list local talent, Wainwright will perform with both a full orchestra as well as Cuban superstar Carlos Varela, who is the subject of HBO Latina’s The Poet of Havana and has collaborated with everyone from Dave Matthews to Jackson Browne. In addition, Interactivo’s Roberto Carcasses will conduct a workshop on Cuban music.

“I’ve played with orchestras all over the world, and it’s a very powerful experience that I’m excited to try in Havana,” exclaims Wainwright. “Cuba is a complete and utter revelation in terms of its historical treasures, vibrant presence and interesting future. I can’t wait to share that with my fans! I’m sure it will be a great party, and we’ll dance the night away.” Travel packages are on sale now.

Rufus is not the only musician to be offering destination concerts in Cuba. Ben Folds will be hosting the “Havana Getaway” from May 25-29 where he will team with local musicians Obini Bata, El Noro, Otto Santana, Annie Garcés, and Interactivo, and the trip includes a photography workshop led by Folds.
