Russian Circles share "Mota" (listen)

Russian Circles

As Chicago post-metal vets Russian Circles get ready to release their new LP Guidance, they’ve shared a second single, following the excellent first track “Vorel.” This one is called “Mota,” and you can check it out below.

“Mota” is one of the poppiest things that Russian Circles have ever done. If this and “Vorel” are a good indication, this new album will find Russian Circles prioritizing hooks to a degree that they never have before. Not that they never busted out the riffs, and not to say that the slow-burning, shape-shifting identity of the band seems to have markedly shifted, but both of these songs get to some legitimately huge moments (aided immeasurably by the great production of Kurt Ballou). Opening with shimmery post-rock, the new track gets to Mastodon-style progginess and Behemoth-y black/death without seemingly breaking a sweat.

Russian Circles are on tour with Cloakroom and Helms Alee this fall, and they have that Warsaw show with Helms Alee on September 30. Tickets for that are still on sale.

Stream “Mota” below.
