Ryan Adams, Craig Finn, Tanya Donelly, Carl Newman & more pay tribute to Grant Hart
We woke up to the sad news today that Grant Hart lost his battle with cancer at age 56. His former Husker Du bandmate Bob Mould penned a tribute, and other musicians have been paying their respects too. See below for tributes from Mike Watt (The Minutemen), Tanya Donelly (Throwing Muses, The Breeders, Belly), Justin Broadrick (Jesu, Godflesh), Ryan Adams, Carl Newman (The New Pornographers), Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), Colin Meloy (The Decemberists), Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), comedian Michael Ian Black, Fred Armisen, Mac McCaughan and Jon Wurster of Superchunk, METZ, Cloud Nothings, The Meat Puppets, Frank Turner, Ted Leo, J Mascis’ band Sweet Apple, and more.
We’ve also unearthed some never-seen photos of Husker Du playing NYC’s Peppermint Lounge in 1985

Holger Czukay and now Grant Hart. CAN soundtracked my childhood thanks to my Step Dad's taste in music, & there's no Jesu without Husker Du.

Husker Du had a mix of anger, sadness + joy I'd never heard before. Didn't care about style or image + that struck young me as super punk.

Wonderful show in Vancouver, but gutted to get offstage and hear that Grant Hart has died. I fucking adore Hüsker Dü. Sad news.

Waking up to news Grant Hart is gone. I can't even *understand* his drumming, but his classic melodicism was a massive inspiration. RIP.

RIP Grant Hart, a cyclonic drummer, soulful singer, epochal songwriter and inspiring autodidact. I hope he has found peace at last.
