Sam Amidon preps new EP (stream a track), touring, playing shows with Xylouris White
Sam Amidon will release a new EP, titled Fatal Flower Garden, on November 15 via Nonesuch. It’s his tribute to Harry Smith and the Anthology of American Folk Music. “Harry Smith believed in the secret connections and mysteries that existed in culture,” says Amidon, “whether it was the feeling of Thelonious Monk’s rhythmic phrasing; the patterns in string games and Ukrainian egg painting designs; the wild fiddle tunes; or the epic folk ballads.” The EP was produced by Leo Abrahams, with Sam and Shahzad Ismaily playing all of the instruments. The music video features drawings by Sam which were animated by Robert Edridge-Waks, and that’s below.
You can catch Sam on tour this fall, first in the UK and Ireland and then in North America. A couple of those shows, NYC (Le Poisson Rouge on 12/3) and Providence, are with Xylouris White. All dates are listed below.
