Sampha on tour with Mal Devisa (who has other cool shows) -- pics from Chicago
Sampha — one of the voices of SBTRKT’s debut album, who went on to collaborate with Drake, Kanye, Frank Ocean, Solange and others — is on tour now in support of his recently-released debut solo album, Process. The North American leg began at The Metro in Chicago on Monday (2/6), and pictures of that show are in this post.
Sampha comes to NYC for a show on Thursday (2/9) at Terminal 5 (which is sold out), and he returns here in May to open for The xx at Forest Hills Stadium on 5/19 & 5/20. Night 1 of The xx shows is sold out but night 2 is still on sale.
Sampha’s current leg of dates, including the Metro show and the Terminal 5 show, is with the unique Northampton artist Mal Devisa opening. Last year, Mal released her debut album KIid on DZ Tapes. It mixes lo-fi indie with her soulful, belted vocals, sorta like the Xenia Rubinos album from last year. It’s really good stuff, and if you haven’t heard it, you can stream it below.
Mal Devisa actually has a Providence show with Xenia Rubinos this month. After that, she opens the Vagabon record release show in Brooklyn at Baby’s All Right on February 24 (tickets). Then in April, she tours the West Coast with Mitski and Kadhja Bonet. These are all awesome bills — if one of these shows happens near you, you know what to do.
