Brooklyn’s SAVAK, which includes members of OBITS, Holy Fuck and more, released their third album, Beg Your Pardon, this year. It’s their most direct statement yet, with hints of The Smiths, glam and other influences sneaking into their punk/postpunk sound. It’s a terrific album and if you haven’t checked out yet, you can listen below.

The band, which currently includes new bassist Matt Hunter (New Radiant Storm King,
Wharton Tiers Ensemble, Silver Jews), are currently in the studio with Geoff Sanoff, working on a new EP. Look for that in late spring / early summer. The band were also just on Evan “Funk” Davies’ WFMU show, and you can listen to their live session here.

SAVAK have a few dates lined up for 2019, including runs with some notable acts. They’ve got shows in January with Hammered Hulls, the new DC band that includes Alec MacKaye (The Faith, Ignition), Mary Timony (Helium, Ex Hex), Mark Cisneros (Des Demonas, the Make-Up), and Chris Wilson (Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Titus Andronicus). This will be Hammered Hulls’ first shows outside of DC, including Philadelphia’s Boot & Saddle on 1/11 and Brooklyn’s Union Pool on 1/10 (tickets) which is also the live debut of Fake Names which includes members of Minor Threat, Refused, Bad Religion and more.

In March, SAVAK play a couple shows with Merge artist Mike Kroll, including Allston, MA’s Great Scott on 3/4 and Brooklyn’s Rough Trade on 3/5 with Spider Bags. Tickets for both those shows are on sale now. All dates are listed below.

Last but not least, SAVAK have given us their list of 2018 favorites, including records by Beak>, The Breeders, Parquet Courts, Iceage, and more. They also made a playlist that includes most of their favorites and you can listen to that, and check out their Best of 2018 list, below.
