SAVAK‘s debut album, Best of Luck In Future Endeavors, is out this week via Comedy Minus One. (Order yours.) The group, which includes members of Obits, Holy Fuck and Nation of Ulysses, pull from a lot of different influences, as one of the band’s singer-guitarists Sohrab Habibion says:

This is our version of a mix tape, with nods to music that continues to inspire us—from early rock’n’roll and surf to pub rock, punk rock, post-punk, stripped-down dub, field recordings and found sounds, free jazz and experimental noise. Everything was written collaboratively, at night, in a small room, veins coursing with adrenaline and a couple of drinks. Music made by humans for humans. Or for nobody. Just made because that’s what we do. Thankfully Jon Solomon from Comedy Minus One offered to release it on a handshake deal so we could scrap the final tune, “In the Middle of Their First Recording Session SAVAK Sign the Worst Contract Since The Fugs.”

Those influences all work their way in naturally, as you might expect on a record made by friends without eyes on the charts. That said, it’s hooky and immediate, and you can listen to the whole album which premieres below.

As mentioned, SAVAK play a record release party this Friday, May 27 at Shea Stadium with with Sunwolf (ft. Jerry Busher of late-period Fugazi/French Toast), Super Silver Haze (ft. Brendan Canty), and Puff Pieces.

SAVAK also play the Unblinking Ear Northside Showcase at Union Pool on June 11, an afternoon showcase with Honey Radar, Big Quiet and “special guest.” Further out, SAVAK will open for Milemarker at Saint Vitus on August 25 with Puff Pieces on the bill as well.

Tickets to all three of those SAVAK shows in Brooklyn are on sale. They’re also playing New Haven, CT in June. All dates are listed, along with the album stream, below.
