Scott Aukerman & Adam Scott launch R.E.M. podcast (listen to the 1st episode)

Four years ago, Comedy Bang! Bang!‘s Scott Aukerman and Adam Scott (Party Down, Parks & Recreation, Big Little Lies) took a deep dive into their U2 fandom with podcast “U Talkin’ U2 To Me?” Now they’re doing the same thing to the works of Berry, Buck, Mills and Stipe with “R U Talkin’ R.E.M. RE: Me?” They’re going to go album by album, chronologically through R.E.M.’s discography, and the first episode does a two-fer of the band’s Hibtone “Radio Free Europe” single and debut EP, Chronic Town.

This first episode, which clocks in at two hours, starts off like they might be punking R.E.M. fans. They don’t really even talk about the band till about 30 minutes in, purposely refer to band members by incorrect names and there is no digression that can’t turn into its own podcast right then and there. But then things settles down, and Scott and Adam discuss where they first heard the band and other fandom, and it gets pretty interesting. And if you’re down for the ride and enjoy Aukerman’s wordy, punny style (just look at the title), it’s also pretty funny. This is clearly a podcast about R.E.M. made by comedians so you get a lot of both here. You can listen to the first episode below:
