Garbage‘s current tour with IO Echo hit the NYC area last night (3/20) at The Wellmont Theatre in New Jersey. The show was notable for a couple reasons. The band brought out a fan named Shannon who comes to shows dressed like singer Shirley Manson. It was a sweet little moment. (Pics of that below.) Later, Screaming Females’ Marissa Paternoster joined them onstage for their cover of Springsteen/Patti Smith’s “Because the Night,” which they did on a lot of dates on their Southwest/Westcoast tour last year. Their collaborative cover is actually coming out as a Record Store Day 2013 7″. Says Garbage:

We decided to record the duet that we had been performing on tour with the Screaming Females towards the end of 2012. The SF flew across country from New Jersey to Los Angeles so we could record it all together at EastWest Studio 1 in Hollywood ; 2 drum kits, 2 bass rigs, 2 guitars, 2 microphones and 1 piano. No mean feat.

We missed openers IO Echo, but more pics from Garbage’s Wellmont performance are below. The band hit NYC tomorrow night (3/22) for a sold-out show at Terminal 5.

Meanwhile, Garbage stopped by The Late Show with David Letterman on Tuesday to perform “Battle Me In” from 2012’s Not Your Kind of People and you can watch that below.
