sexual assault allegations against ex-Sigur Ros drummer detailed
Orri Páll Dýrason, who has played drums in Sigur Ros since 1999, has left the group following allegations of sexual assault against him made by Los Angeles-based artist Meagan Boyd. In a new interview with Pitchfork, Boyd provides further details about the allegations. She describes meeting Dýrason while working at the Body Shop, a West Hollywood strip club, in January of 2013, and being invited home with him. After drinks, she says he invited her to get into bed and cuddle with him, which she did. After kissing, she says she told him, “‘I feel weird… is it OK if I just sleep here, because I’m actually getting really tired and I don’t want to do this. Can we just sleep?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, sure.’ He seemed really nice about it.”

Boyd woke up, she said, to the feeling of someone performing oral sex on her. “I opened my eyes and I was sort in shock. I was like, ‘What’s happening to me?'” she told Pitchfork. “Before I could move he just started putting his dick in me. And then I pushed him off of me, and I was like, ‘I was asleep, what are you doing?’ And he was like, ‘I’m sorry, I just wanted to make you feel good.’ And then he said that he didn’t know that I was asleep. And I was like, ‘How could you not know that I’m sleeping?’ And he just kind of was like, ‘I’m sorry.’ And then he laid back down and I was like, ‘You don’t do that to people who are sleeping.'”
According to Boyd, she put on her clothes and started looking for her keys, but she was feeling dizzy, tired, and groggy. In her recollection, she went back to bed with her clothes on and fell asleep next to Dýrason. “When I woke up again he had taken my pants off, and my underwear off, and he had his dick inside of me,” Boyd said. “I woke up to the feeling of being penetrated.” She pushed Dýrason off again and yelled at him that he had raped her, she recalled. “I wasn’t really tired anymore. The first time I was so out of it, but this time I was just angry.”
Pitchfork spoke with three friends of Boyd who say she discussed her experience with Dýrason with them. Boyd also told Pitchfork she first anonymously brought up the allegations in a reddit AMA with Sigur Ros five years ago. The comment reads:
Attention Orri: Remember when you went to The Body Shop in West Hollywood a few weeks ago, January 9th, a Wednesday. You brought home a girl you met there and took her to an apartment in Silverlake. You waited until she fell asleep to fuck her unconscious intoxicated body. It’s called RAPE. Does this sound familiar…?
Pitchfork also spoke with Dýrason about the allegations. He confirmed that he had spent the night with Boyd “talking and drinking,” but denied the sexual assault. “My comment is I didn’t do anything,” he said.
