Sharon Van Etten shares "Jupiter 4" and its video

At Sharon Van Etten‘s recent shows, she played new single “Comeback Kid” as well as the song “Jupiter,” which she co-wrote with Donna Missal and which came out on Donna’s recent album This Time. We wondered if “Jupiter” was the same song as “Jupiter 4,” which will appear on Sharon’s upcoming album Remind Me Tomorrow, and it is indeed. Sharon’s version of the song is out now, and while it’s pretty close to Donna’s, there are some subtle differences and it’s great to hear Sharon singing it. Sharon’s is a little more atmospheric — there are some late ’90s Tori Amos vibes — and it shows off a more minimal side of Remind Me Tomorrow than the upbeat “Comeback Kid” did. It’s keeping our hopes high for this album, and you can check it out (and watch its very cool, black and white, Katherine Dieckmann-directed video) below.

Here’s what Sharon said about the video:

I had been looking forward to collaborating with Katherine again since finishing our work together on her film [Strange Weather] in 2016. Since wrapping the film, she has not only been a guiding force in my work, but a light and guiding force in my life as well, sharing with me stories of how she and her husband made it work with two kids as artists living in New York and encouraging me to return to my music after my son was born. I asked if she would ever want to make a music video for me. She asked what the mood would feel like and I simply said ‘apocalyptic mom.’ And with that – she said ‘Absolutely.’ That’s why I love her so much.

Remind Me Tomorrow comes out January 18 via Jagjaguwar. As mentioned, Sharon will support it on tour with Nilufer Yanya, including a NYC show on February 9 at Beacon Theatre that also has Fred Armisen on the bill (tickets). All dates are listed below.
