Shirley Manson, Debbie Harry, Mark Lanegan & more feature on 'American Gods' soundtrack (listen)

Shirley Manson of Garbage, Blondie’s Debbie Harry and Mark Lanegan all feature on the official soundtrack of American Gods, Bryan Fuller‘s ambitious, phantasmagoric television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed novel. You can listen to “Queen of the Bored” which features Manson and written with the series’ composer, Brian Reitzell below.

Fuller was in NYC this weekend for Vulture Festival, where he participated in a very entertaining Q&A on Saturday (5/20) with critic Matt Zoller Seitz about his love of horror. Fuller revealed that the song “Tehran 1978” is for the Season 1 finale which soundtracks a montage that tracks the Bilquis god across centuries. They were originally going to use a Blondie song but then Fuller hit on the idea of having Reitzell compose a new disco song, which she duets with Manson. Blondie and Garbage are on tour together this summer, have a co-headlining tour with Garbage, which hits NYC’s Beacon Theatre on August 1 (tickets).

Mark Lanegan has two songs on the soundtrack, one of which is a cover of Leadbelly’s “In the Pines” which Nirvana famously covered on MTV Unplugged. Listen to that, and his and Reitzell’s “St. James Infirmary Blues” — plus the full tracklisting of the American Gods soundtrack below.

Fuller also was the showrunner for the terrific NBC series Hannibal (based on Thomas Harris’ Hannibal Lechter series) which featured a Siouxsie Sioux song in the Season 3 finale. NBC didn’t pick up the show for a fourth season, but Fuller said he is still trying to do it. There were around 30 “fannibals” at the Vulture Fest Q&A, some of whom had traveled from around the country (and Canada) to attend.

American Gods is airing now on Starz and the soundtrack is out June 16.
