The Brooklyn Power Pop Festival happened at The Bell House over the weekend, playing host to all things short, sharp, crunchy and catchy. The fest was presented by The Trouser Press and editor/founder Ira Robbins played host. The second night (5/10) featured two legends of the genre. For Chicago’s Shoes, it was their first NYC show since 1992 and hot on the heels of last year’s Ignition which was the band’s first all-new album in 18 years. (It’s good too.) The band also had some of their classic ’70s era records reissued recently by The Numero Group, including 1977’s Black Vinyl Shoes, and the hard-to-find Bazooka. Pictures from their set — including one of the setlist — are in this post.

Paul Collins, of The Nerves and The Beat, is a more frequent visitor to NYC, coming through at least once year lately, but that does nothing to diminish three-minute gems like “Hanging on the Telephone,” ““Walking out on Love” and others. Pics and setlist from his BPF set are in this post too.

Opening the night were two of the better modern day powerpop torchbearers, The Barreracudas and Brooklyn’s Games. Unfortunately we missed night 1 of the Brooklyn Power Pop Fest (Dwight Twilley and Pezband) but we’ve got more pics from the entirety of night 2 below…
