Shop Talk

Shop Talk (Queening, Pygmy Shrews, Liturgy) releasing s/t debut LP (stream it)

Brooklyn trio Shop Talk are a new-ish band with some familiar faces: Queening‘s Jon Garcia, Pygmy Shrews‘ Alexander Perrelli, and Liturgy‘s Bernard Gann. Their self-titled debut album was produced by Jonathan Schenke of Eaters, who has also done several Parquet Courts records.

If you like Parquet Courts, there’s a good chance you’ll like this too. It similarly pulls from classic punk and post-punk, with razor-sharp playing and a sense of cool. It’s also got a twangy edge with some hints of early Gun Club. The record drops next week (11/11) via Brainbox Records (pre-order), and a full stream premieres right here:

Here’s what singer/guitarist Jon Garcia tells us about it:

This record was a long haul. When I started working on it on my own a few years ago, I had just lost my job and my old band had broken up around the same time. I’d been experiencing a lot of turbulence in other areas of my personal life. It seemed sort of critical that I jumpstart a new project to pull myself out of that period.

Bernard and Alexander came into the fold at exactly the right time, and gave the tunes a real lift. Jonny Schenke and Kyle Keays made major contributions on the production front. I feel like the album plays to a number of ideas and tastes, musical or otherwise, that are underrepresented in today’s punk.

They’ve also got tour dates coming up, starting with an album release show in their hometown at Alphaville.
