Twin Peaks: The Return

Showtime airing 'Twin Peaks' marathon; Julee Cruise releasing demos EP

Twin Peaks: The Return

Last year, David Lynch and Mark Frost brought Twin Peaks back to television in the form of the 18-part limited event series Twin Peaks: The Return. Next month, the network will air a marathon of The Return, just in time for Emmy season. The “Emmy For Your Consideration” marathon will take place on June 2, starting at 4:35 AM ET/PT, and ending at 10 PM ET/PT. We can’t guarantee that rewatching the series will make it much easier to comprehend, but it will surely be a fun experience trying to do so. Set your DVRs, or just watch it on demand or on Blu-ray like most people do in 2018.

In other Twin Peaks news, Julee Cruise, whose song “Falling” is the Twin Peaks theme, will be releasing an upcoming EP titled Three Demos, out August 17 via Sacred Bones. As the title suggests, the release consists of three demo tracks recorded by Cruise with David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti in between recording her track “Mysteries of Love” for Lynch’s Blue Velvet, and the creation of her debut album Floating Into The Night. The EP includes early versions of “The World Spins,” “Falling,” and her track “Floating,” which sounds noticeably different than the final version heard on her debut. In addition, Sacred Bones will also be releasing Cruise’s second LP, The Voice of Love, on vinyl for the first time, which comes out the same day. You can hear the demo version of “Floating,” along with the final version, below. Pre-orders are available.

A few days back, Chromatics member Johnny Jewel recently put out a surprise double album Themes for Television, which was recorded prior to his work on Twin Peaks: The Return‘s soundtrack. The album contains an alternate version of “Windswept,” which ended up being used in Twin Peaks, and you can stream the full album below.

In case you missed it, David Lynch brought his Festival of Disruption to NYC’s Brooklyn Steel, which featured live musical performances from Animal Collective, Angel Olsen, Flying Lotus, Au Revoir Simone, and others. The event also included a talk with Lynch, Kyle MacLachlan, and Isabella Rossellini prior to a screening of Blue Velvet. Pics from the 2-day event can be found HERE.
