Sigur Ros announce 2016 North American tour

Sigur Ros have announced a North American tour for this fall, and it’ll be their first-ever tour without an opening act. Instead, the band will be doing two sets at each show, starting at 8:30 PM sharp each night. The shows will also be just the band without the string and brass sections they’ve had on recent tours, and they’re planning to debut new music on the tour. They’re also promising “new interpretations of old songs that haven’t been played in a very long time.” The band adds:
In addition to playing songs you know, we wanted to remember the seat-of-your-pants feeling experienced in the wake of ágætis byrjun, when for two years we formed and re-formed the songs that would go on to be the ( ) album live in front of people, night after night. All we can say right now is it’s going to be different, with new unreleased songs, a new show and maybe some other *new* things. Beyond that, we can only ask you to trust us on this one.
The tour is mostly at theaters, hitting NYC on October 5 at Radio City and October 6 at Kings Theatre. Those are much more intimate places to see them than Madison Square Garden, and they’re great settings for Sigur Ros’ music too.
Tickets for the whole tour go on sale Friday (4/8) at noon EST (except the Hollywood Bowl show, which is on sale now), and there will be “a limited number of exclusive packages available that include the best seats in the house and autographed memorabilia.” There will also be BrooklynVegan presales for the Radio City and Kings shows, starting Thursday (4/7) at noon EST.
