Sigur Ros releasing 'Agaetis Byrjun' box set, on tour now (pics from Chicago)

Sigur Ros announced that their seminal breakthrough album Ágætis byrjun will get an expanded limited-edition box set reissue in late 2017. The announcement reads:

A definitive, much expanded edition of ágætis byrjun is in the works for later this year to coincide with the bands norður og niður event in Iceland in December. The deluxe boxset edition will feature previously unheard studio recordings and rare live versions from this pivotal period in the band’s development, as well as a welter of photographic and documentary material from their personal archives and plenty more besides. It will be a beautiful thing to behold, and the last word in completist editions of Sigur Rós catalogue releases.

The band encourages you to check out their Instagram stories for rare snippets from the Ágætis byrjun era. They’ve also got a stream of the regular version of the album up on their website.

Sigur Ros are on tour now as a trio, playing two career-spanning sets each show (no opener). We recently caught the Chicago show on June 3 at Auditorium Theatre. Pictures of that one are in the gallery above. Setlist and some videos below.

Back in April, Sigur Ros livestreamed their LA show at Walt Disney Concert Hall, which had them joined by the LA Philharmonic. That performance was recently archived, and you can watch the whole thing below.

The North American run wraps up this Saturday (6/17) at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens (tickets).
