‘Silent Rave’ in Union Square, NYC Friday night
For you and your walkman (or so you know what the hell is going on when you walk by Union Square Friday
night after work)…

6:30pm – 11:00pm
New York, NY
Ok so thanks to the absolutely overwhelming success of the Silent Rave New York group, the time has come already to set up an ACTUAL EVENT and I actually have to organise this whole thing! So here goes…
This is extremely exciting for me, especially as I’m an exchange student who only moved here from London a few months ago!
For those of you who have not seen the group or do not know what a Silent Rave is, check out the info and videos on the original page seen here:
The basic premise is thousands of people turn up in a public place, plug in their own ipods, listen to their own music and dance and rave for hours!
The prospect of raving like you really don’t care about what other people think, with thousands of fellow dancers, is a bloody brilliant one I think you’ll agree!
These times and locations are 99% set unless there’s a big movement and/or good reason to change them. I’d love to do it sooner, but this way people won’t be away for Spring Break, plus it’ll be warmer by the end of April, and we can get loads of support in that time!
Updates will be posted as we get nearer the time. As for now all we can do is spread the word as much as possible, and then on the day: show up, plug the pod in, turn up the playlist and start raving at the precise random time (to be determined soon – probably around the 6pm mark)
After the traditional huge 10 second countdown everyone RAVE and DISCO till your legs fall off or your iPod battery runs out! (Trust me I’ve gone for over four hours before, those buggers have long battery lives!)
There is never an official end time for Silent Raves, its just whenever you’re done that it ends. Facebook requires an end time which is why I put one in.
Anyone who’s ‘missing out’ I hope you have very good reasons for not attending one of the best nights in NYC this year!
Anyway – keep inviting! Lets get this huge before the day arrives!
PS. Any photographers/film makers etc. are very welcome to come too! The London raves always have bloody loads of journalists and no-one minds, as long as you post your work for us to see afterwards! (via) (via)
