Sinkane expands tour, opening for Umphrey's McGee at the Cap
Former DFA artist and Yeasayer/Caribou member Sinkane has been crossing over into the jam world more than ever lately. His great new album Life & Livin’ It pulls from ’70s funk and ’70s rock in a way that’s more jam than indie, and his ace live band is the kind of band you expect to see at a jam festival. In fact, Sinkane played Mountain Jam last month and he’ll be heading to Virginia jam festival Lockn’ in August.
One of the bands Sinkane will cross paths with at Lockn’ is proggy jammers Umphrey’s McGee, and Sinkane will also open one of the New York shows on Umphrey’s’ just-announced tour. Umphrey’s play The Capitol Theatre on October 20 & 21 and Brooklyn Bowl on October 22, with Sinkane opening the 10/20 date. Tickets go on sale Friday (7/28) at noon with a presale starting today (7/26) at noon.
Umphrey’s members also play Brooklyn Comes Alive in September, including the Gregg Allman tribute. All of their dates are HERE.
Right after Lockn’, Sinkane plays hometown festival Afropunk Brooklyn. He plays the St Heron stage (Solange’s label) with Sampha, Thundercat, KING, Shabaka and the Ancestors, and a special guest TBA. Sinkane also opens several dates on funk band (and Lockn’ alumni) Turkuaz‘s upcoming West Coast tour. All Sinkane dates are listed below.
