Sir Babygirl - Crush on Me

Sir Babygirl announces debut album - listen to "Flirting With Her"

We were introduced to the glossy, queer pop of Kelsie Hogue, aka Sir Babygirl, with her August single “Heels.” At the time she said she was planning her debut album for the project with a 2019 release date, and now it’s been officially announced. Crush On Me comes out February 15, 2019 via Father/Daughter records, and you can listen to a new single from it, “Flirting With Her,” below. “Flirting With Her” is a little more early 2000s alt-rock oriented than “Heels,” recalling Avril Lavigne’s singles from the time period, and that isn’t by accident. Kelsie said, “I was listening to a lot of Avril and Ashlee and wanted to take the structure of their anthemic songs and make it explicitly gay. It’s about every girl I’ve ever flirted with.” With its breathless lyrics of, “she left her name on my lips, I don’t think I’ll ever get over her hips,” “Flirting With Her” should immediately appeal to those who felt left out by boy-crazy bubblegum pop.

Sir Babygirl hasn’t announced a full tour, but the recent Brooklyn transplant has a show at Baby’s All Right on November 26 with EVA (who we caught singing backup for Blood Orange recently) and Grace Ives. Tickets are on sale now.
