Skylar Gudasz in Big Star Third, released a debut LP, made videos

Even before releasing her debut album, Virginia’s Skylar Gudasz caught the attention of dB’s member/record producer Chris Stamey, who invited her to be a member of Big Star Third, the Big Star tribute that also includes members of Wilco, REM, Yo La Tengo, and more. Here’s Skylar singing “Thirteen”:

Skylar released her debut album, Oleander, earlier this year, and her original material is worth hearing too. The album’s lead single “I’m So Happy I Could Die” is deadpanned folk-ish rock (with an equally deadpan video) that feels kinda similar to Angel Olsen. More recently, she made a video for another song on the album, “I’ll Be Your Man.” Directed by her brother Jason, it’s an underwater slow dance befitting the song’s dreamlike nature. That premieres in this post and you can watch both here:

Skylar has a few shows coming up, including playing in Eric Bachmann‘s band at Hopscotch, and playing the NC State Fair with Superchunk.
